Spring Break is upon us! Your feed might blow up with pictures of faraway places. For those of you who are staying local, don’t let the lack of airline miles put a damper on this opportunity for some family fun. Sleeping in, no homework and not making lunches for a week are enough to celebrate. Done, done and done! If you want to spice it up beyond that, here are some great suggestions from all of our advisors that will make for a great staycation!
Kick off your staycation at the Mid-town Square Spring Festival in Cary on April 13th from noon to 10pm. Free Admission for this event leaves plenty of money to enjoy the vendors, food trucks and beer as your enjoying the long list of musicians.
If you haven’t wandered without an agenda around Duke Gardens, your missing out. The explosion of color and the organic meandering of the park is so awe inspiring. They have several classes and events throughout the year. On April 17th there is a Container Gardening class for $19.
Any day can be fun at Falls Lake! This 20 square mile lake has many special spots that can make for a great day by the water. Sandling Beach is a $7 car entrance fee with plenty of restrooms, picnic tables, playground. Beaverdam is another picnic and waterfront area on Falls Lake and also has a mountain bike trail
It might be hard to say, but the Occoneechee Speedway in Hillsborough will surely delight everyone in your group. Four miles of trails from the original Nascar dirt speedway from 1949 takes you along the banks of the Eno River.
There is nothing like a good boat ride for Spring Break. If you want to be a Captain for the day, Jordan Lake might be on your agenda. You can rent a boat for the day at the marina. This 14 acre reservoir has plenty of camping, fishing and picnic spots!
Have you been living here for years and still not gone down to the State Farmers Market in Raleigh? After finding treasures and having a yummy seafood lunch, you can visit the Gardner Show on April 13th or come back on the 18th for the Vegetable Day!
The NC Museum of Art has several new outdoor installations, Friday night movies, free permanent collection and a traveling gallery which now features a beautiful collection of birds from the John James Audubon. On April 14th there is a free event Veterans and the healing power of movement.
