If you are anything like me, the mere mention of wineries in North Carolina will make you giddy with excitement! I had no idea that such a treat existed in our state, let alone that we have several within just a few hours drive.
Some very special friends of mine shared stories of their love of visiting various beautiful vineyards, enjoying the wine tasting events and taking in the gorgeous scenery as they relaxed and unwound. Sounds enticing, right?
They introduced me to Medaloni Cellars that is located 10 minutes outside of Winston-Salem and has 22 acres of beautiful rolling hills! Even in the off season it’s very picturesque and I was in love with the rustic yet modern cedar buildings that dot the grounds.
The main building features a grand bar that showcases all of their signature wines along the back wall, gorgeous exposed beams, cozy seating areas grouped with Adirondack chairs and empty wine barrels, and a covered patio area that overlooks the vineyard and provides the perfect view of those stunning sunsets!
We took advantage of staying in one of the two cabins they have on the grounds. Chateau Bergeron is the more traditional cabin just a short walk from the main building or you have the option of the Tree House that is about a quarter mile walk and tucked into the trees. You also can choose an Airstream! We chose the more traditional Chateau Bergeron with a wrap around porch and views of the lake from the back porch. The inside is quaint and very inviting with beautiful high ceilings and a stone front fireplace in the living room/kitchenette. The bedroom shares the same high ceiling and has its own electric fireplace that was heavenly! Each stay includes a bottle of their wine and two signature glasses, but nothing beats the feeling of complete relaxation that being surrounded by nature brings!
I would highly recommend this beautiful winery and look forward to visiting again once the vineyard is in full bloom. We chose to stay overnight, but this is also a perfect day trip to enjoy some of their signature wines while relaxing with your feet up or taking in the sights as you hike the trails that wind through the property.
Need a little more? Roughly 15 minutes away is Tanglewood Park where a fun game of Softgolf awaits! Using 4 1/2″ foam balls with large faced clubs makes this golf game fun for everyone!
And, if you love antiques, I would encourage you to stop at Granddaddy’s Antique Mall in Burlington. It’s 84,000 square feet of treasures from old gas pumps, unique furniture, vintage jewelry, art, toys, and more. It’s easy to spend hours here, so word to the wise: eat before you go. We stopped at Hops Burger Bar in Greensboro and I did the happy food dance throughout my meal! If you love local brews and craft burgers made with locally grown ingredients this is a must!
